For Health Reasons Only If your child needs to be sent home because of a sudden illness or injury sustained during the school day, a parent or guardian will be contacted. If a parent/guardian cannot be reached, a person listed on your child's emergency form will be contacted. All other dismissals, including scheduled doctor and dental appointments, are handled through the Attendance Office or the Building Secretary.

Important Information It is imperative that the School Nurse be notified if your child contracts a communicable disease. Children are excluded from school for the following diseases: Chickenpox: Excluded 5 days from 1st appearance or when all vesicles are crusted over, whichever is sooner. Conjunctivitis, Acute (“Pink Eye”): Excluded until prescribed treatment has been given for 24 hours. Head Lice: Excluded until treated with a medicated shampoo and hair is free of all nits. Impetigo: Excluded until judged noninfective by the child’s physician or the School Nurse. Measles: Excluded until 4 days from onset of rash. Mumps: Excluded 9 days from onset or until swelling subsides. Pertussis (Whooping Cough): Excluded 3 weeks from onset or 5 days from start of treatment. Ringworm: Excluded until judged noninfective by the child’s physician or the School Nurse. Rubella (German Measles): Excluded 4 days from onset of rash. Scabies: Excluded until determined to be noninfective by the child’s physician or School Nurse. Streptococcal Pharyngitis (Strep Throat) and Scarlet Fever: Excluded until 24 hours after treatment has begun. Students must be fever free (temperature below 100° F) for 24 hours off any fever reducers prior to returning to school. Wissahickon School District also reserves the right to exclude children from school based on the following criteria: Ø Illness that prevents the child from participating in activities Ø Fever (100°F or higher) Ø Diarrhea or vomiting during the previous 24 hours Ø Rash with fever Ø Other conditions deemed appropriate after assessment by the Certified School Nurse and/or the Nursing Assistant. |
