The kids and coaches come to practice each day and give their best. I’m so proud of how they have come together, their maturity and passion to play is nice to see. The defensive and offensive lines were the difference tonight. Anthony Davidson and (Rick and Ricky) Leisey have done a tremendous job in developing our lines. Steve Ahn was amazing tonight. He was all over the field making tackles. Scott Biel was a force anchoring our lines. This is a great feeling, but we still have work to do next week against North Penn.

10/27/07 – The Wissahickon Trojans (7-2) defeated Plymouth Whitemarsh  28-7 last Friday evening. The Trojans got on the board early as senior running back Vaughn Jacobs ran 12 yards for the score. The defense was led by seniors Scott Biel and Tony Isabella. The defense held the PW ground game in check all night. With the win, the Trojans can now play for a share of the league title against rival Upper Dublin this Friday night.

From the Coach: “I’m impressed the way our kids played tonight. Our defense continues to play at an optimum level. Coach Cannon has those guys firing on all cylinders. I was impressed by the play of Tony Isabella and Scott Biel on the defensive line. They were disrupting PW’s run game all night. Josan had another big game offensively and defensively along with Vaughn Jacobs. Our secondary is playing well. Next week is the big one against Upper Dublin; we want our share of the title and to get into the playoffs. It should be a great game.”

10/21/07 - The Wissahickon Trojans (6-2) looked impressive defeating the Quakertown Panthers on the road Saturday night 41-14. The starting defense pitched another shutout for the 3rd straight week while the offense got it going early, scoring on each of their six possessions building a 41-0 lead at the intermission. The offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage early allowing the three headed offensive attack of Vaughn Jacobs, Josan Holmes, and Steve Ahn to run/catch for over 300 yards by halftime. Jacobs also returned an 80 yard interception for a score. The Trojans will play home next week against Plymouth Whitemarsh.

From the Coach: “Again, our kids were focused to the task at hand, which is a reflection of their maturity to get the job done. Our defense played another solid game. I knew our defensive secondary had to play well with Quakertown passing out of the shotgun tonight. Coach Fischer has done a tremendous job developing our DB’s. Morgan Hill, Brandon Gunn, Brandon Moore, and Josan have been playing effectively. Offensively, we continue to move guys off the line of scrimmage. Rick Leisey and his son Ricky get our big guys ( Biel, Russell, Cook, Johnson, Isabella, and Kim)  to play aggressively every week. It’s been fun to see the chemistry the line has developed over the last couple of weeks. It must be all those chicken wing and cheesesteak incentives.”

Troy played exceptional well at the wingback position. Defensively, we are improving each week. I’m seeing defense being played with attitude. That has been the difference the last couple of weeks. Coach Fischer has been working with our special teams. It was good to run one back tonight.”

10/7/07- The Wissahickon Trojans (4-2) won a hard fought defensive battle on the road against Cheltenham  Saturday afternoon 6-0. Senior Steve Ahn and junior Matt Johnson secured the middle of the Trojan defense all day while senior Josan Holmes added superb run support from the defensive secondary. Troy and Josan connected for the big one which proved to be the difference in the ballgame. I also credit the coaching staff this week for keeping the kids focused by teaching with attention to detail. Coaches Anthony Davidson, Rick Leisey Sr., Mark Fischer, Brian Alboucq, Whit Yost, Ricky Leisey, Larry Cannon, Joe Casalinouvo and Whit Yost did a great job this week. It was nice to have the offensive line produce a 1000 yard back (Vaughn Jacobs) at this point in the season. We are going to enjoy this one and get ready for the Bears next week!"

10/01/07 – The (3-2) Trojans played well Friday night to defeat the visiting Warriors of Methacton 28-11. Wiss welcomed the return of starters David Kim (QT), Tony Isabella (QG), and Troy Green (LB). Several other Trojan players were able to contribute this week coming off ankle injuries. Senior QB Josan Holmes, FB Steve Ahn, and center Matt Johnson were back in the lineup. From the Coach: “ I said all week that defense wins football games. Tonight they played their hearts out. Andre Jordan had a heck of a game tonight. He was in their backfield all night. Coach Larry Cannon called a nice game tonight by putting our kids in a position to create turnovers by attacking their offense aggressively. Special teams coordinator Mark Fischer had our special teams firing on all cylinders. The fake punt run by Myron Ross was well-executed. I thought Jason and Hugh had a great night kicking and punting. We needed to come out with a healthy team tonight and play a solid four quarters. I thought we accomplished that this evening.”

9/14/07 -  The (2-1) Trojans defeated visiting Germantown Academy 41-34. Senior Vaughn Jacobs had a career night scoring six touchdowns and rushing for 308 yards. Wiss got on the board first with well-executed outside run. Seniors Scott Beil,  Tony Isabella, Troy Green and junior Dan Cook had sealed the edge beautifully to allow Jacobs to score. The senior Holmes finished with 122 yards passing. Defensively, Biel anchored the defensive line along with sophomore linebacker Phil Voluntad filling in the injured Steve Ahn.

From the Coach: " Vaughn was simply amazing tonight. This will be a game he will always remember. I thought we blocked well tonight. Defensively, we are trying to hold the line with a lot of inexperienced players out there. Scott Biel comes to play each and every week. We still have a lot of work to do to get ready for our league opener next Friday. It was good to get a win in front of a big home crowd."

9/21/07 - The (2-2) Trojans suffered their second loss of the season on the road against Upper Merion 22-21.  The Trojans built a 21-6 lead in the second quarter when the Vikings closed the gap to 21-14 just before the half. The Vikings added another score in the third and successful executed the 2-point conversion. Wiss was held to only 90 yards in the second half. The Trojans will be home this Friday against Methacton.

From the Coach: " Tonight was tough one to lose. We are trying to find a way to win with a lot of guys out or playing at fifty percent due to injury. At times, we were playing tonight with seven sophomores defensively. Offensively, we ran the ball effectively, however I need to mix things up better. The team is going to regroup and I'm going to make sure this team is ready to go next week at home. Hopefully, the long weekend will provide the rest and healing our kids need."

Jv's won yesterday 38-22.  Big Offensive Day for Tom Christ who was about 7 for 8 passing.  He hit 4-5 receivers for a catch.  Brandon Moore and Ryan McDonough both caught long passes as well.  Anthony Jackson and Blake Reed both ran well with the football.  The Offensive line opened holes all day.  Defensively, Sean O'Brien played well at D Tackle.  The Secondary of Tom Christ and Jamal had many tackles defending the run.  Anthony Jackson and Plinio Cass. both had interceptions.  Special Teams stars were Brandon Moore who returned a punt and Ryan McDonough whose kickoffs landed at about the 5 yard line every time.

The Trojans remained competitive in the first half by adding another score by senior QB Troy Green. The halftime score was 14-14. In the second half, Pottsgrove wore down the Wiss defense by running the well -executed option attack. The Trojans did manage to accumulate over 300 yards rushing. Jacobs turned in a fine effort with 284 yards rushing.

From the Coach: " I knew tonight would be a challenge with several of our starters out with injuries. We executed well in the first half, but ultimately we were unable to stop their option attack. I thought offensively we had a nice effort from our offensive line. Senior Scott Biel played well on both sides of the ball and Vaughn had a career night running the ball. We look forward to the return of our starting players at the quarterback, fullback, and inside linebacker positions this week. We're going to rebound with a good week of practice and I'm confident that our squad will be ready for this week's contest."

up 326 yards rushing behind a nice effort from the Oline. Scott Biel,
Cameron Russell, Matt Johnson, Dan Cook and David Kim led the charge up
front. The defense contained the Lancers by holding them to 105 yards.

with a couple of our starters going down. To use three quarterbacks and
getting the job done, I'm very proud of how these kids stepped up. The
offensive line had a nice push tonight. We have to keep working hard. It
was nice to open up with a win."

From the Coach:  “Tonight was a hard way to end such a good season.  I think we need to stand back and look what we accomplished as a whole. To go 8-2 then get in the playoffs was a good run for this senior bunch. From the Coach:  “Tonight wasn’t our night.  We couldn’t get much of any going.  We need to put this game behind us and focus our efforts this Friday night against Upper Dublin. I have confidence in the kids. I know they will bounce back and get ready to play this week. We will learn from the film and move on.”

10/25/06 - Yesterday was the JV Trojans best and most complete game of the year.  Everyone gave their best effort.  It started with the offensive line, who dominated and opened holes all day. Each player gave a great effort.

10/23/06 – The Trojans move to (7-1) on the season with a 27-20 win over visiting Quakertown. Senior Zach Kreider accounted for four touchdowns on the night. Wiss will play PW this Friday night away in an important league game.

From the Coach: “ The game tonight was about being a team. When guys go down, others on the team need to step up. That is what happened tonight. Troy Green played a great game tonight. He was a key part of the defensive goal line stand in the third quarter that kept Quakertown from scoring. I was proud of Chris Kim’s play too. His touchdown catch late in the forth was a huge play for us. No one was going to catch him. I knew it was going to be a matter of time for Chris. He is an explosive player. Kyree Robichaw did a nice job filling in for our two injured running backs. He played well on defense too. Zach Kreider is such a gamer. His play was the difference tonight. He stood in there and delivered some big passes and his touchdown run was huge. Also, to come in late in the game when our two punters were down to punt the ball inside the fifteen was important to our win.

Our line blocked well. Jesse and Ryan did a super job up front. Our line protected our quarterback all night. They are improving with each game. It was important to get that winning taste back. We’ll rest up and get ready for PW next week. We all know the importance of this game. Our team will be looking forward to it.”

10/19/06 – Senior night will be this Friday against Quakertown. The three middle school teams along with the Ambler-Whitpain Trojans are invited to come out on the field before the game to help us congratulate our senior players.

Junior halfback Josan Holmes had a great first half running behind the Wissahickon line of Eddie Flitter and Dmitri Sidorchev. Wiss had some misfortune with some keys injuries early in the first half. Starting flanker/linebacker Johan Holmes, running back/linebacker Vaughn Jacobs, and starting offensive/defensive tackle Ray Carter all left the game early. The defense had some nice stops early in the game but could not hold off the (6-1) Bears who scored three times in the second half. Wiss will have their senior night this Friday home against Quakertown.

From the Coach: " I thought we played well at times, but we didn't play as disciplined as I would have hoped for tonight. We also didn't take advantage of some opportunities to win. I go back to the controllables. At times, we were sloppy - jumping offsides, fumbles, and missed assignments on defense and special teams. I take pride of having a well-coached team and tonight we weren't that. In looking at the film, there are many coaching opportunities that my staff and I will focus on for next week's practice to put our kids in a better position to win. I thought the kids fought hard and and gave a good effort. My hats off to Upper Moreland. They have a nice squad. We need to get healthy and put this past us to get ready for Quakertown."

10/10/06 – The (2-2) JV’s lost to Cheltenham 14-0 on Monday afternoon. Offensively Jerome Jacobs had three catches.  Chris Thompson and Roman Lowry both had a catch as well.  The defense played great.  Chris Thompson and Sidney Davis played well against the run.  The secondary of Morgan Hill, Jimmy O’Brien, and Anthony Jackson played well defending their pass.

The dynamic duo also caught some nice passes from senior quarterback Zach Kreider who started the scoring with his own 2 yard TD run.  Junior fullback Scott Biel added a touchdown run to seal the victory.  Defensively, the Trojans stopped the Panthers. The starting defense held the visitors scoreless all night. Linebackers Johan Holmes, Kyree Robichaw, and Dmitri Sidorchev played very well. The Trojans look forward this Friday night to a key league game away against Upper Moreland.

From the Coach: “This was a quality win for us. I thought we played our best football game this year. There was a lot of hitting going on out there. I knew Cheltenham wasn’t going down without a fight. We finally beat them. Offensively, Steve (Kreider) called a great game. He had their defense on their heels all night. Our line, Ray Carter, Eddie Flitter, Jesse Shippley, Ryan Taylor and Dmitri Sidorchev, had their best performance. They all graded out near 80%. They opened the holes up for our speedy backs. Defensively, we played disciplined. Our ends Tyreek Spain and Scott Beil continue to play well and our linebackers made tackles.  Johan, Kyree,  and Vaughn played very well. I was proud of Dmitri’s play. He came in when our starting middle linebacker went down and did a tremendous job. It was good to see Brandon Burrell back. He made a nice interception in the 3rd quarter that allowed our offense to put the game away. We have to keep working hard and get ready for a big game on Friday against Upper Moreland.”

They are working hard each day. We need to keep improving each week. Cheltenham is coming in on Friday. They are well-coached. We’ll have to play well to beat them.”

9/25/06 – The Trojans are 4-0!  The Wissahickon football team defeated Upper Merion 30-12 to notch their first league win of the season. The Trojans quickly got on the board when junior running back Vaughn Jacobs scampered 53 yards for a touchdown early in the first quarter. Senior QB Zach Kreider threw two touchdown passes to junior Josan Holmes and senior Mike Rogers. Wiss’s kicker Ben Reibach was perfect on the night adding three field goals. The defense allowed only one touchdown on the night. Wissahickon will be playing away this Saturday against Methacton.

From the Coach – “ The kids played a super game tonight against a very good Upper Merion team. Vaughn Jacobs had a great night running the ball and on special teams.  I thought our defense really did an outstanding job slowing down UM’s high power running attack. They made key plays when we had to. The forth down stop, Scottie’s (Biel) interception and Josan taking the ball away from Larry Gaskins were two huge plays. Joe Cass continues to improve each week on the defensive line. Dmitri Sidorchev had a good night on the offensive line. Zach continues to run the offense well. His two touchdown throws and his ability to read the defenses to put our offense in the right play call has been big. Ben had another terrific night on special teams with his three perfect kicks. The kids knew how big tonight was and they came ready to play. I’m so proud of this ball team. Hopefully we can rest up our guys with the long week and get ready for an improved Methacton team.”

9/23/05 – JV’s are 1-0. The Wissahickon JV’s defeated Germantown Academy 18-0 last Monday.   Phil Lucas and Morgan Hill scored TD’s for the Trojans. Both offensive and defensive lines played well.

9/18/06 – The Wissahickon Trojans moved to 3-0 with a 28-17 win over neighboring Germantown Academy. Wiss scored their first touchdown when Temple bound Tyreek Spain forced a fumble by sacking the GA quarterback. On the play, junior Josan Holmes picked up the ball and ran 59 yards for the score. Senior quarterback Zach Kreider put the Trojans up at the half 14-10, when he threw a perfect 15 yard TD pass to senior Mike Rogers. The second half belonged to Wiss. The defense shut down the GA offense with some good defensive line play from Joe Casalinuovo and a fine performance by outside linebacker Vaughn Jacobs. The Trojans managed the clock and the ball by successfully scoring on two long drives. Jacobs and Holmes added a touchdown each to seal the victory.  The Trojans begin their league play this Friday night home against Upper Merion.

From the Coach: “ This was a good win over our visiting neighbors. I thought GA played us tough. Tonight was a game where we needed to calm down a little and focus on playing fundamentally sound football. The kids responded well and played a nice game in the second half.  Defensively, Tyreek made another big play out there with the sack and forced fumble. Josan was in perfect position to pick up the ball and score. Josan’s interception gave us good field position. Big plays helped us tonight. I told the kids before the game that you have to play this game 100% on each play because you never know when that special play is going to happen. Kreider’s touchdown pass to Rogers before the half was huge. That gave us the momentum going in. I was pleased offensively in our ability to run the football in the second half. Obviously, it feels good being 3-0, but we need to correct some things on both sides of the ball to get ready for a good Upper Merion team this week. I’m looking forward to the return of two of our starters, Johan Holmes and Tyrell George on both sides of the ball this week.”

9/11/06 – The Wissahickon Trojans improved to 2-0 with an impressive 42-0 win over visiting Kennedy Kendrick. The offense looked very sharp by scoring on their first two possessions.  Senior QB Zach Kreider threw two perfect strikes to senior wideout Johan Holmes.  The Trojans line looked impressive all night. They opened some nice holes which allowed junior tailback Josan Holmes to run for two touchdowns. Junior tailback Vaughn Jacobs and senior Phil Lucas both added a TD run. Senior kicker Ben Reibach was perfect on the night adding 4 PATs. The defense had their first shutout of the season. The unit was led by senior defensive end Tyreek Spain and senior linebacker Kyree Robichaw. The Trojans are home this Friday night against Germantown Academy.

From the Coach – “The kids played a good game tonight. I thought our passing game looked impressive. Zach had a big game. He threw the ball with such precision. Johan is amazing out there catching the ball.  He has worked so hard since January. He is hard to defend. I thought our line protected Zach well and opened some big holes for  Boo and Jitterbug. Dmitri Sidorchev had a solid game up front. Defensively, I thought we improved from last week. The kids were more disciplined tonight narrowing the running lanes which allowed us to shut down their run game. Tyreek and Scott Biel did a fine job on the edges. My hats off to their coaches, Coach Davidson and Letrinko. They work so diligently each practice with their players. Overall it was a good win. We’ll have to be ready next week against GA. I think the guys understand that and will be ready.”

9/3/06 - The Wissahickon Trojans started their 2006 season with an exciting 12-6 OT win over a physical Bishop McDevitt team. Wissahickon (1-0) scored their two touchdowns on the ground. The first was a 22 yard run by senior wideout Mike Rogers in the first quarter.  The second was a three yard plunge by junior tailback Josan Holmes in overtime. The Trojan defense played well all night, only allowin160 total yards. Wissahickon will be in action again this Friday night home against Kennedy Kennrick. The Kickoff is 7:00 P.M.
From the Coach: " This was a great win for our team. This was a well-played ballgame by both teams. I thought our kids fought hard all night. Defensively, we really got after them. We got a nice effort from our linebackers. Steve Ahn played a great game. His interception was a key play in the game. Our defensive ends, Scott Biel and Tyreek Spain, did a nice job containing McDevitt's run game. Biel's blocked field goal gave an emotional lift to our team in overtime. I think that sparked everyone including the big blocks up front from Eddie Flitter and Ray Carter on Josan's touchdown run. Offensively, we did some nice things tonight that were brought back due to penatities. Those mistakes are things I'm confident that we can correct. Our guys really wanted to get started on the right foot this year and I'm very proud of their effort tonight. I know they will be eagerly waiting to get back to work for next week's game against Kennrick."

8/29/06 – Wissahickon will have their home opener this Friday night against Bishop McDevitt. The kickoff is set for 7:00 P.M.  Good Luck Trojans!!

10/31/05 – The Trojans fell to PW 48-34 Friday night. As one local paper stated, it was a duel between PW’s running back D’Rel Scott and Wiss’s Jason Uhlig. Uhlig had 4 touchdowns receptions for the night. Both teams managed to put up a total of 750 yards of total offense. Being down 28-7 at the half, Wiss came back to make it 40-34 with 2 minutes left in the game before Scott ran one in. Wiss will play its final game of the year Friday night against cross-town rival Upper Dublin. Both teams are 4-2 in the conference looking for sole possession of second place.

From the Coach – “I’m proud of how our kids came back. Being down 28-7 at the half and getting it to 6 points with 2 minutes left showed a lot of pride. Jason had a big night tonight. He played a great game. I thought Josan Holmes threw the ball well. We want to finish on a positive note. I know both teams will be ready to play this Friday. It will be our senior night and Ambler-Whitpain Night. It should be a great game.”

10/26/05 – The JV’s lost their first game of the season to CB West 26-18. Adam Johnson ran for 2 touchdowns and his brother Desmond ran for another.  Anthony Guillano and Trevor Vaughn had a nice game defensively. The (5-1) trojans will be away this week against PW.

10/24/05 – The Trojans jumped to (5-3) and (4-1) in the league with an impressive 34-13 win against CB West on Friday night. The Trojans built a 21-7 lead at the half behind some key blocking up front from seniors Jason Uhlig and Ricky Leisey. Wiss had two touchdown runs by sophomore Vaughn Jacobs and one from senior back Tyrone Johnson. In the second half, Wiss had a pair of field goals (28yd,36yd)  by senior Jake Linus and a 78 yd TD kickoff return by Vaughn Jacobs. The defense played well all game allowing 6 points.

From the Coach -  “Tonight was an all-around team effort. I thought our offense, defense and special teams played well. Our defense is getting better each week. Tyrone Johnson and Johan Holmes played well on the edges. Tyreek Spain is flying around out there and making plays. I think he had 3 sacks. I was also impressed with Mike Rogers at defensive back. He was coming up all night and putting big hits on those big running backs from West. He is a tough kid. Offensively, what can I say about “Jitterbug.” (Vaughn Jacobs) He is fun watch. He has such quickness, balance and field awareness for a young back. Jake Linus had a big night contributing with his two field goals. Our kids came ready to play and executed.  The focus our kids have needs to carry over to this coming week against PW.  Our goal is to win our league. We have a challenge ahead of us, but I know our kids will come out and work hard this week to prepare for this opportunity.”

10/20/05 -  JV’s Still UNDEFEATED!  The Wiss JV’s improved to 5-0 with a come from behind win against Upper Moreland 12-7. Steve Ahn scored on a 5yd run and Adam Johnson connected with Troy Green with twenty-five seconds left to put the Trojans on top. Defensively, Morgan Hill and Troy Green had interceptions and Jesse Shippley had a fumble recovery. Coach Leisey praised the offensive line for a fine performance. The guys up front were Wayne Bailey, Trevor Vaughn, Jesse Shippley, Eddie Flitter, Sam Bell and Chris Kim.  Great job guys!!

10/17/05 – The Trojans moved to (3-1) in the conference and (4-3) overall with a win over Upper Moreland. Sophomore Vaughn Jacobs scored two TD’s and the Wiss defense had some key 4th down stops to seal the win 14-12.  Wiss got on the board first with a TD pass to Jacobs from sophomore Josan Holmes. The Trojans scored again when Jacobs ran 53 yds behind some key blocks from seniors Drew Armstrong, Brandon Banks and junior Joe Cassalinovo. With the game at 14-12, the defense came through down at the goalline with a big 4th down stop.  The Trojan offense was able to run off seven minutes and get some key first downs to win the game.

From the Coach-  “I’m really proud of these guys. The defense came up big. The extra point block, the two-point conversion, and the two key 4th down stops were huge!  I’m also proud of the way the offense moved the ball especially in the 4th quarter with 7 minutes left with these muddy field conditions. David Perrine’s call to pass on 2nd down deep in their territory was big toward the end of the game. Also, I’m proud of sophomore Steve Ahn to step in and kick two critical extra points. That proved to be the difference in the ballgame! “

10/11/05 -  The Trojans suffered their first league loss to Cheltenham 42-14. Wiss started the game with a 95 yard TD kick return from sophomore Vaughn Jacobs. The Trojans tied the score 14-14 when sophomore QB Josan Holmes scored on a 1 yard run.  Cheltenham was able to control the ball offensively behind a strong running attack.  The (3-3) Trojans look to get back on track this Friday night away against Upper Moreland. The kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.

From the Coach: “Tonight was a tough loss. Our kids have been playing some good football lately, but tonight wasn’t our night. I give Cheltenham credit. They have a nice squad. Even though I saw how our team was down last night after the game, I thought that was a good sign because they worked hard all week for this one and it showed me how much they care. We will put this behind us and get ready for Upper Moreland. The kids are working hard in practice and we still have four games left. I know they will bounce back and get ready to play. I thought senior Tyrone Johnson ran hard tonight and we are going to build on that. Also, I was pleased to see a special play that we worked on all week was properly executed.”

10/10/05 – Last Saturday’s game with Cheltenham was postponed to Monday, Oct. 10th. (TONIGHT)  The game will start at 6:00 PM. at Wissahickon.  The game was postponed due to heavy rain.

Sophomores Josan Holmes (QB) and Vaughn Jacobs (RB) each had 100yds. Holmes connected twice in the air with senior captain Jason Uhlig. Defensively, the Trojans Tyreek Spain recorded a sack and played well in the second half.

From the Coach: “ I thought we had a nice night offensively.  Our offensive line and backs blocked well. This is two weeks in a row that I’m seeing movement up front.  We came out a flat defensively in the first half, but it was good to see the kids respond and tighten down in the second half. The kids are working hard each day. We’ll need a good week of practice to get ready for Cheltenham.”

9/27/05 – The Trojans JV team improved to 3-0 Monday night with a 20-0 win over Upper Merion.  Adam Johnson ran for a touchdown and threw to Jacob Wright for another. Wiss used their power package as junior Jun Park listed at 285 pounds ran for a 2 yard TD behind the lead block of sophomore Steve Ahn.  The Wiss defense was strong all night led by junior Francesco D’Ambruoso who recorded 2 sacks and Julius Henry who had a lot of tackles. Sam Bell played a fine game on offense stepping in and playing center.  The JV Trojans are away at Methacton next Monday.

9/25/05 -  The Trojans picked up a big victory against Upper Merion 42-21 Friday night.  The win moves the Trojans to (2-2) and (1-0) in league play.  Wiss got started early when senior linebacker Tyrone Johnson intercepted a UM pass and sprinted 31 yds for the 1st score. The offensive line blocked well led by senior tackle Chris Johnson and senior all-league tight end Jason Uhlig. Wiss had two backs over a 100 yds. Sophomore QB Josan Holmes and junior RB Tyrell George scored two touchdowns each to add to their 100 yd night. Sophomore RB Vaughn Jacob had a fine night too running for a 33 yd touchdown. The defense tightened down this week led by defensive tackle Chris Johnson and junior d- tackle Joe Casalinuovo.  The Trojans recorded four sacks. Chris Johnson had 2, and Ricky Leisey and junior Tyreek Spain had 1.

From the Coach: “I thought the team played well tonight. It was good to see our offensive and defensive lines step it up this week. We got tremendous blocking from our backfield. Tyrone Johnson and junior Johan Holmes had a lot of fine blocks that allowed us to run the ball effectively. Putting 42 on the board was good to see. Dave continues to work hard in planning our offensive attack. It paid off tonight. Our defense played a fine game. Jeff mixed the D’s well tonight. The kids knew their assignments.  Jake Linus and Sean Sandgren played a good game on special teams and I was pleased to see junior linebacker Anthony Gulliano step in a make some plays late in the game after working hard on scout team all week.”

9/20/05 – The Trojan’s JV team moved to 2-0 with a big 23-6 win against Truman. Wiss scored on the first play when quarterback Adam Johnson threw a 45 yd TD strike to wide out Troy Green. The Trojans had the ground game going with great blocking from Sam Bell, Jesse Shippley, Trevor Vaughn and Wade Bailey.  The blocking up front allowed the Johnson brothers, Adam and Desmen, to run for two touchdowns. The defense played a great game led by defensive lineman Ed Flitter, Francesco D’Ambruoso, and defensive end Chris Kim.  Many tackles were made by linebacker Julius Henry.  The Trojans stopped any momentum from the tigers with two interceptions by Jacob Wright and one by Anthony Gulliano.  The 2-0 Trojans will host Upper Merion this Monday evening at 6:00 PM.

9/19/05 -  The Wissahickon Trojans (1-2) lost to the Truman Tigers (3-0) Friday night 39-13. The Trojans built a 7-0 lead in the 1st before Truman answered to make it 7-6. The Trojan’s defense kept the Tigers in check while Wissahickon marched down the field twice inside the 5 yard line only to score two field goals by Trojan Senior Jake Linus to make the game 13-6 at halftime. The defense played well through the 3rd quarter while the Trojan offense drove inside the red zone two more times and did not score. The game was tied 13-13 in the 4th quarter before the Tigers unloaded to a 39-13 finish.

From the Coach: “Tonight we had some missed opportunities. We had the ball inside the 5 yard line five times and only came away with 6 points. A couple of penalties hurt us in the red zone.  I thought the offensive line played well tonight. Brandon Banks, Ricky Leisey, Dmitri Sidorchev, and Andrew Pascal improved this week which was good to see. I was also pleased with our defensive backs Mike Rogers, Josan Holmes, and Desmond Johnson for not giving up any long pass plays. We worked on that all week. I give credit to Truman’s running back, he ran hard in the forth quarter and we didn’t bring him down. Our kids will rebound and get ready for Upper Merion Friday night.

9/13/05 -  The junior varsity started the season with a big win against Quakertown. The JV’s (1-0) won the contest 3-0.  The defense had a great game led by Andrew Pascal and Roman Lowery. The next JV game is home on Monday against Truman.

9/11/05 – The Trojans (1-1) got their first win at against 8th ranked (Philly Inq.) Quakertown (1-1) on Friday night. Wiss came home with a 21-14 victory in front of a capacity crowd.  Juniors Dmitri Sidorchev (DL) and Tyrell George (LB) led Coach Cappa’s stingy defense to stop the Quakers in the 4th quarter. Senior captain Ricky Leisey anchored the offensive line which allowed sophomore quarterback Josan Holmes to rush for two TD’s and pass a 6yd TD strike to senior captain wide out Jason Uhlig.  Holmes finished with 88 yards on 23 carries and junior tailback Tyrell George finished with 113 yd on 13 carries.  Credit offensive coordinator, Coach Perrine, whose game plan allowed the Trojans to slice through a tough Quakertown defense. The Trojans look to keep things going this Friday night at Truman (2-0).  The kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.

Other Notes:  The Trojans special teams came through with an outstanding performance from junior Sean Sandgren. Sean’s quick accurate snaps allowed punter/kicker Jake Linus to pin the Quakers deep in their own territory.  Senior Linus finished 3/3 on extra points.

From the Coach: Coach DeSimone says the team had a great win Friday. He credits the kids for working harder in practice this past week to get in better shape. 4 quarters were needed to earn the win.  He credits the leadership from the captains to get the team ready to play in a tough Qtown stadium. He says the team will go back to work to get ready for an inspired Truman team that is playing good football.

9/05/05 – The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking lost to Bishop McDevitt in their home opener. The Trojans built an impressive 24-0 half time lead and wound up losing 25-24 on a last minute field goal. Wiss had a good ground attack in the first half led by junior Tyrell George and sophomore Vaughn Jacobs. Junior Dmitri Sidorchev had fine night blocking up front. The Trojans lost eight of their starters at half time and the beginning of the 3rd quarter due to leg cramps. Coach DeSimone took blame for the lost stated he didn’t get his team in shape.
